Rick's MLB Plays 9/2

Toronto Blue Jays @ Pittsburgh Pirates (6:35 ET)

Favorite: Blue Jays -238

Total: 8

Pitchers: Alek Manoah (2.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) vs. **Bullpen Game**

I've sang my praises for Alek Manoah all year. A throwback pitcher that lives and dies with his fastball but has a nice sweeping slider to compliment it, he either gets soft contact or swings-and-misses on the majority of his pitches. A perfect example is his August numbers: 22 hits in 29.1 innings and 33 strikeouts. His issue has been walks and if he cleans that up he'll be back to his best. He should have no worries against Pittsburgh who strikes out and walks at horrendous rates. Manoah should go deep into this game and considering it's a bullpen game for the Pirates who had the WORST bullpen in the league in August (4.82 xFIP), this game screams a blowout for the Jays. I'll take the chalk and trust what's been a slumping offense in the Blue Jays to get right.

Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 -144 (2u)

Seattle Mariners @ Cleveland Guardians (7:10 ET)

Favorite: Mariners -140

Total: 7.5

Pitchers: Luis Castillo (2.85 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) vs. Zach Plesac (4.39 ERA, 1.31 WHIP)

From one of my favorite pitchers to bet on in Manoah to another in Castillo, I've been burned by him only because of a lack of offensive production, something that shouldn't happen today as the Mariners look to continue their winning ways against Plesac. These two teams faced off recently and Plesac was actually brilliant allowing just 3 hits over 7 innings, but those 3 hits all went over the fence. Castillo was no slouch either in their outing going 6 innings allowing just 1 run on 4 hits. We should have much the same on Friday as I don't trust the Guardians offense to produce much if any runs off Castillo. They've been brutal lately, getting shut out in 3 of their last 4 games. It's a little pricy, but I'll take the Mariners to be leading after 5 innings with push insurance.

Pick: Mariners F5 ML -147 (1u)
