Rick's MLB Plays 8/5

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets (7:10 ET)

Favorite: Mets -130

Total: 8.5

Pitchers: Ian Anderson (4.99 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) vs. Taijuan Walker (2.79 ERA, 1.12 WHIP)

Ian Anderson is one tough pitcher to cap. He's either going to provide a solid performance or get busted for 7 runs and leave the game in the 3rd. There's no clearer example of that than his month of July. He had one outing where he allowed 7 runs over innings, but allowed just 4 runs over the other 21.2 innings. He's been better away from Atlanta and was excellent in his only outing against the Mets allowing just 1 run over 5 innings.

Taijuan Walker is much the opposite, consistent and dominant are two words to describe his 2022. He's dominant at home (1.93 ERA) where he'll be Friday night, but oddly enough he's poor at night (4.62 ERA). I'm not sure how to read into that or if there's anything to read into, but the descripency between that night ERA and his day one (1.03) is stark considering there's a large sample size. The Mets got the better of the Braves in the opener Thursday and might do so again on Friday, but I'll take a flier on the offensive juggernaut Braves to keep this game at least tied through 5 innings.

Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks (9:40 ET)

Favorite: Diamondbacks -130

Total: 8.5

Pitchers: German Marquez (5.29 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) vs. Madison Bumgarner (3.83 ERA, 1.36 WHIP)

These two faced the opposition recently and both had incredible outings allowing just 2 runs over 7 innings. Marquez began the season horribly with well over a 6 ERA over the first two months, but has recently been solid (3.69 ERA in July). Like most pitchers, he's much better away from the thin air of Coors Field so another great outing against the DBacks could be in order. Mad-Bum hasn't been as stellar lately allowing at least 2 runs in each of his last 5 starts. Granted some of those outings he went deep into the game, but it just exemplifies how he's been middle-of-the-road since April. With how dominant the Rockies are against left-handed pitchers I expect the Rockies to get to Mad-Bum for a few runs over the first five innings and Marquez to have another solid outing.

Pick: Rockies F5 +.5 -130 (1u)
