Rick's MLB Plays 8/14

San Diego Padres @ Washington Nationals (12:05 ET)

Favorite: Padres -260

Total: 9

Pitchers: Blake Snell (3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) vs. Paolo Espino (4.04 ERA, 1.27 WHIP)

Washington was able to pull out game 2 of what is a revenge series and might be the most important series for the remainer of their season. I still don't trust their bats, especially against Snell, and Paolo Espino is not as good as his ERA indicates. He is a reliever turned starter and since that role shift he has struggled mightily. Over starts in July and August he's hovering at just under a 6 ERA with a WHIP of 1.47. Snell on the other hand has been nearly unhittable over his last 4 starts, pitching 22.2 innings allowing only 3 runs on 18 hits. Expect him to have yet another great outing against the depleted Nationals in an early afternoon start.

Minnesota Twins @ Los Angeles Angels (4:07 ET)

Favorite: Twins -135

Total: 9

Pitchers: Chris Archer (4.02 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) vs. Tucker Davidson (7.91 ERA, 2.02 WHIP)

As I write this the Twins just blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth and almost allowed it to be an inside-the-park home run, then allowed an actual home run in the bottom of the 10th to lose 5-3. While they didn't have the starting pitching advantage in Saturday's matchup, they clearly do on Sunday. Chris Archer has been a pitcher nobody is talking about this year, but has been excellent for the Twins. He's allowed more than 3 runs just 3 times in his 19 appearances and doesn't allow much contact. His issues come in with his walks and that he doesn't tend to go deep into games, but I still trust him to provide 5 quality innings against the stale Angels.

Tucker Davidson is one of the top prospects in the Angels organization but has failed to impress last year and now this year. He has five starts so far this year for the Angels and has allowed 5 or more runs in 3 of them. He's a Fastball/Slider pitcher mainly but that fastball is getting torn to bits by batters (.357 xBA). Expect the Twins to get to him early and often and dominate what should be a bounce-back Sunday effort.

Pick: Twins ML -135 (1u) & Twins F5 ML -140 (1u)
