Rick’s MLB Plays 8/10

Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets (1:10 ET)

Favorite: Mets -300

Total: 8.5

Pitchers: T.J. Zeuch (N/A) vs. Taijuan Walker (3.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP)

Back to the well again on Wednesday! We’ve cashed the Mets on the runline the past two evenings and we’re looking to make it three in a row as the stud Taijuan Walker looks to bounce back from a career worst outing where he allowed 7 runs in just 1 inning against the Braves. Even with that outing his ERA is only a 3.45 and he’s been exceptional otherwise. T.J. Zeuch is a decent prospect who has looked good in the Minors but I’m not sure he’s ready yet for the Big Leagues. The Reds are experimenting with different players throughout the remainder of the season, essentially giving trials to their prospects. Zeuch is one of those but given how the Reds have received no offensive production for a while now, even just a few runs could cash a runline ticket. Let‘s run it back!

Pick: Mets -1.5 -140 (1u)

Atlanta Braves @ Boston Red Sox (7:10 ET)

Favorite: Braves -145

Total: 9.5

Pitchers: Kyle Wright (3.22 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) vs. Nick Pivetta (4.51 ERA, 1.33 WHIP)

Boston’s offense has been resurrected with some bats returning from injury as well as key additions Tommy Pham and Eric Hosmer (already injured) but received some more bad news that Chris Sale will require season-ending surgery on his wrist after he broke it bicycling. Bad luck strikes again for Sox fans and after an extra innings loss on Tuesday they’ll be desperate to bounce back. Nick Pivetta began the year with a brilliant May and June, posting a 2.18 ERA in that stretch. Since the beginning of May though he’s been a vastly different pitcher allowing almost a 9.00 ERA and a 2 WHIP. Given his bad form I’m sure he wont be excited to face a brilliant offensive team in Atlanta with a stud like Kyle Wright looking to bounce back after his season worst performance against the Mets. Wright allowed 6 runs over 1 inning before being pulled, so while his showing was embarrassing he should be fully rested and ready to throw a great game. Give me the Braves to take another game in Boston.

Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Royals (8:10 ET)

Favorite: White Sox -140

Total: 9

Pitchers: Johnny Cueto (2.91 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) vs. Kris Bubic (5.27 ERA, 1.54 WHIP)

Johnny Cueto has to be one of the best signings of the year. Week in, week out he provides this White Sox team with quality starts and goes deep into games. He gets better away from the Windy City, posting a flat 2.00 ERA on the road. His counterpart, Bubic, has been much better as of late too. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs even once over his last 7 starts and is really limiting the amount of contact he’s giving up. The White Sox hit lefties well (8th in OPS this season) but have struggled mightily since the beginning of July (26th). I doubt that a Royals team that traded away most of it’s solid offensive players will be able to get to Cueto, and I don’t trust the White Sox bats. I’ll take a stab at a NRFI and full game under.

Pick: NRFI -130 (.75u) & u9 -115 (.75u)
