Rick’s MLB Plays 6/2

Updated: Sep 12

San Francisco Giants @ Miami Marlins

Favorite: Marlins -140

Total: 7

Pitchers: Alex Wood (4.81 ERA, 1.44 WHIP) vs. Sandy Alcantara (2.00, 0.99 WHIP)

Miami is coming out of Coors Park where they fell to the Rockies in the series but managed 26 runs in the last two games. Their bats are as hot as they come, but then again anyone coming from Colorado tends to be. Even if they regress this game, they have Sandy Alcantara on the mound who has been nothing short of exceptional. His numbers are no fluke, at 26 Sandy has just gotten better with each start through his early career.

Alex Wood is quite the opposite, struggling recently he’s allowed 11 runs in his last 13 innings pitched, including 21 walks and hits. He’s sputtering but has been boosted by a San Francisco lineup that has been able to crank out runs against almost anyone. Sadly that won’t happen today and the Marlins will win a low-scoring affair behind Alcantara’s arm.

San Diego Padres @ Milwaukee Brewers

Favorite: Padres -115

Total: 8.5

Pitchers: Sean Manaea (4.02 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) vs. Adrian Houser (3.69 ERA, 1.38 WHIP)

Sean Manaea has not been the pitcher he was expected to be this year thus far. His ERA is respectable, but he’s been in some sort of slump. Allowing at least 3 runs in each of his last 6 games, he’s been prone to walks and the long ball. The Padres are coming off getting swept against the Cardinals, and haven’t scored more than 4 runs in their last 9 games.

Houser has by no means been exceptional, but he’s been solid and is coming off of his worst start of the year after allowing 5 to the Cardinals. Milwaukee’s bats haven’t been exceptional in May but have ramped up lately, posting 7 or more runs in 3 of their last 5 games. Expect them to be able to get to score enough at home to oust a struggling Padres team

Pick: Brewers ML -105 (1u)
