New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles
Favorite: Yankees -195
Pitchers: Luis Severino (4.08 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) vs. Kyle Bradish (4.24 ERA, 1.06 WHIP)
The Orioles have begun to come back to Earth from their decent start. They’ve lost 4 of their last five, scoring only 7 runs in the process. They’re struggling to help an over performing pitching staff and it’s beginning to hurt. Bradish has had a solid beginning to the year but tends to get hit hard, and when he does he gets blasted. Please welcome the Yankees’ sluggers to Baltimore!
The Yankees have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning 6 of their last 7 behind great pitching and solid hitting. While only upper mid-tier in most statistical categories, we know just how explosive these bats can be, and the Yankees torched Baltimore in their last series, scoring 27 runs through three games. Severino takes the mound not having the sexiest stats, but his expected numbers show improvement should come soon.
The juice on the ML is too much to take, but the Yankees should be able to win handily should their bats continue from their hot streak against Chicago.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 -115 (1u)
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Chicago Cubs
Favorite: Cubs -155
Pitchers: Dillon Peters (1.83 ERA, 0.71 WHIP) vs. Wade Miley (9 ERA, 3.33 WHIP)
Excuse Miley’s pitching numbers as he’s only pitched three innings. This matchup is a tale of two pitchers who thrive on soft contact and mixing up their sequences. Both are top tier in gettings batters to chase and Miley is looking to continue off a brilliant 2021 season. Peters has been a story for the Pirates so far, and it’s no fluke. In the upper echelon in almost every category, he looks to continue his brilliant start today.
Both pitchers are lefties, and both teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum hitting against them. The Cubs in May are 20th in OPS and 25th in wRC+, while the Pirates are 2nd in OPS and 1st in slugging. While the Pirates have struggled the last few games against the Reds to get the bats going, today is a perfect spot for them to get right against a pitcher still looking to catch his groove in 2022.
Pick: Pirates F5 +0.5 -110 (1u) & Pirates F5 ML +148 (.5u)
Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers
Favorite: Angels -145
Pitchers: Noah Syndergaard (2.46 ERA, 1.06 ERA) vs. Jon Gray (5.51 ERA, 1.22 WHIP)
We all knew just how good Noah Syndergaard was before his Tommy John surgery. His long layoff caused concerns over how good he’d be when he returned, but it seems he’s finally getting back up to speed. The 29-year old truly uses 5 pitches, with his least used being his curveball at 8.4%. He’s been solid this year and looking to continue going against Jon Gray who has been better than his numbers say. While he should bounce back, he’s still good to allow 2-3 runs per outing.
The Angels have two of the most explosive bats in baseball with Trout and Ohtani, but you can’t overlook what Rendon, Walsh, and Ward are doing too. If they all start today, you could be looking at an offensive explosion for the Angels. The Rangers have continued to struggle offensively in their rebuild, hitting for just .209 in May, good for 26th in OPS.
Pick: Angels F5 ML -130 (1.5u) & F5 TT o2.5 +125 (0.5u)
