After going on a tangent about how profitable NBA Player Props have been for me this season so far (14-7, +7.5 units) I went away from them on Wednesday and went 0-2. Tonight, on a small NBA slate of just four games, I go back to what I do best without trying to get cute with it. Here is an NBA Player Prop I absolutely love tonight, and feel free to follow along with me @AndyHHSports on Twitter. I may add more there, and absolutely will tweet some additional plays out on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so don't miss out! Let's jump into it:
H/T to Elías Valverde II with the Dallas Morning News for the photo.
Christian Wood over 27.5 Pts & Rebs (-115) - 2 Units
PARLAY (+267) - 0.75 Units:
- Christian Wood over 19.5 Pts
- Christian Wood over 8.5 Rebs
My introduction may have been shorter than usual, but I did say we are not getting cute with the props tonight. I mean business, and by that, I mean I am rolling out my first two-unit play of the 2022-23 NBA regular season. Christian Wood has been on FIRE out of the gate for the Mavericks and will look to continue this form against a not-so-impressive Brooklyn Nets side.
The Brooklyn Nets are on a back-to-back, have not looked great defensively, and have struggled against big men to start their campaign. Brooklyn allowed 20 and 11 from Bobby Portis on top of an absolute thrashing from Giannis and the Bucks on Wednesday. Before that, guys like Santi Aldama and Brandon Clarke found themselves in the double-digit scoring column, while Steven Adams racked up 13 rebounds inside. The Nets did squeak out a win against the lengthy Raptors, but not without a triple-double from Siakam and 17-7 night from Scottie Barnes. Finally, at the beginning of the season, Zion and Jonas hads their way with Brooklyn inside with Zion's dominant return to action of 25 and 9 plus Valanciunas offering up a 15 and 13 double-double.
I have used this logic above against Brooklyn before, but if that is not enough to convince you, then surely Christian Wood's current form will be. Wood has accumulated statlines of 25 and 8, 25 and 12, plus 23 and 6 over the course of his first three games for Dallas while only averaging 26.3 minutes per game. We did see his minutes lift to 29 against the Pelicans on Tuesday night, and hopefully, that is the case tonight against Brooklyn as the Mavericks will look to open up the interior scoring early. If the Mavericks can get Wood and others going offensively on the interior it will open up their beloved three-point game too, which makes me lean Mavs tonight as well.
Let's enjoy Christian Wood feasting on the Nets tonight with a 2-unit play and a parlay that is a bit riskier but can offer up a 2-unit win. I believe the Nets will be a bit tired despite the back-to-back finishing for them at home tonight, which is even more reason to think their defensive struggles inside will be exposed even further. Wood has had the hot hand in Dallas so we will back him here with some favorable opposition.
