EPL Week 5 Picks

The first midweek Premier league slate is upon us on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each club’s depth and mentality will be tested with matches played so close together. Let’s dive into 2 plays I like for Matchday 5 of the EPL.

Crystal Palace-Brentford 2:30pm ET, Tuesday

Both these clubs come into the first midweek match of the campaign limping a bit off their performances on the weekend. Palace went 2-nil up at the Etihad only to give up 4 goals in the second half to City while Brentford drew against a poor Everton side. This one sets up to be one of the more intriguing matches today with Palace under Viera being a fortress at Selhurst Park. The Eagles had the 6th best xG in the league at home last season losing only to Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal during that span. The Bees have looked quite underwhelming early on in the season outside of the United match in terms of the eye test and numbers. I think Palace at least gets a point out of this so I will be riding with Crystal Palace Pk, -.5 (-110).

Bournemouth-Wolves, 2:30pm ET, Wednesday

Bournemouth come into this match in absolute disarray. Scott Parker was sacked on Tuesday after a 9-0 drubbing at Anfield and look like a side certain to be relegated. On the other side, Wolves had an encouraging performance on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle. A controversial VAR decision and wondergoal from Saint-Maximin were the only obstacles keeping them from all 3 points. Granted, Bournemouth have played a majority of their matches against 3 of the top 6 clubs but they have looked abysmal. Wolves have looked much more stable and look like they have plenty to improve upon. One of the best defensive records and the return of Jimenez showed through on Sunday and I think Wolves can at least scratch out a draw if not a win. Lets ride with Wolves Pk, -.5 (-115).
