Week 1 is now in the books, and so is a positive string of results to get the NFL season started! Last week's article went 2-2 netting +0.15 units, with my plays tweeted out before kickoff adding an additional two winners for +2 units. If you missed out on my late additions, make sure to follow me @AndyHHSports on Twitter so you do not miss out on more Week 2 plays! With that out of the way, let's jump into the early plays I am locking in as we wrap up the first week of the season.
6-Pt Teaser (-120) - 1.5 Units
- Denver Broncos -1 (Monday Night)
- Cincinnati Bengals -1
I wanted to make sure to get this first play out before the Monday Night Football game for two reasons. The first reason is I think that the Broncos win the game tonight but I am iffy on the spread with how much the public is loading up on Denver. The second reason is to grab the Bengals at -7 and bring them down amid the news that Dak Prescott is out for 6 to 8 weeks following the Sunday Night Football loss to Tom Brady and the Bucs.
In my preview of the AFC West, I was not shy in voicing my concerns regarding the Broncos this season. I respect Russell Wilson, but I do not respect the risk he poses by running his own offense as he did in Seattle with significantly fewer offensive options at his disposal. The AFC West should be the best conference in football this season by a landslide, but I don't see Denver being able to keep up with Kansas City and Los Angeles like many feel they should.
The good news is, the Monday night game tonight is about smashing the awfully staffed Seahawks that Wilson left rather than worrying about how Denver stacks up against their division. I do not like that 76% of the bets are on Broncos spread tonight, and believe the game may be closer than some think. However, look for Russ and company to get things started off on the right foot and snag a win at his old stomping grounds.
Now that I was able to sneak a final Week 1 play into a Week 2 betting preview, let's cover the Bengals. I feel very confident that Joe Burrow's five-turnover game is a fluke. The Bengals have to travel to Jerry World where the Cowboys are coming off of a loss, but Dallas does not pose much of a threat offensively scoring a measly three points against Tampa last night. I like the defense in Dallas a lot and respect them, but even against a lesser defense from Cincy compared to Tampa, there is just no way this Dallas offense can carry them to a win without Dak Prescott.
I will be experimenting with teasers throughout the season, so look for more value grabs and 6-point cushions like this moving forward. I formatted the play a bit differently to call some attention to it, let me know what you guys think!
H/T Fox News for the picture.
Washington Commanders vs Detroit Lions
The Lions and Eagles line sat with the Eagles as four-point favorites for months, and then as the game approached on Sunday the line quickly shot up to 6. When it hit that number, I could not resist and ended up buying the Lions to +7. It turns out we did not even need the line movement or point purchase, as the Lions came back in terrific fashion for the backdoor cover of 38-35.
I believe this Lions team is a lot better than people assumed they would be, and that is taking out all of the hype they have gotten from Hard Knocks. This squad really improved during the second half of the 2021 NFL Season, and they look to have made additional progress since then as they came out firing against the Eagles late. I could not resist jumping in early when the lines released last night and the Lions were at -1.5.
DeAndre Swift looked incredibly dominant against Philadelphia and Amon-Ra St. Brown performed to his strengths as well. You can definitely say the same for Carson Wentz and the Commanders, but I am not going to get as excited for them defeating a measly Jaguars side who are still the garbage franchise we have known for a long time. Look for the Lions defense to force Wentz into more mistakes than he did versus Jacksonville, as the Detroit defense will be giving him more decisions to make and not leave Curtis Samuel and company as open.
The Play: Detroit Lions -1.5 -110 - 1 Unit
